The Costa Rica 8-Day Horseback Riding Package

One of the most popular horseback riding holidays provided by Horse Trek Monteverde is the unique 8-day "Trails of the Campesinos" Vacation; a horseback riding package that threads through the mountains of Monteverde and Guanacaste and ends at the foot of the Arenal Volcano.

Our route takes you across the Continental Divide of Costa Rica, where views are breath-taking. You will ride through the mountains and explore the forests and farm lands of Monteverde and Guanacaste, as well as beautiful waterfalls, rivers and streams and banana and coffee plantations of Costa Rica. The trail eventually winds down rolling hills and you will trot by small villages and have a chance to greet the local people, "Ticos", as they call affectionately call themselves. You finally reach the last stretch, a ride along the Lake Arenal , the largest lake in Costa Rica. Your adventure finishes at the foot of the impressive and active Arenal Volcano where a boat will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Arenal to view the volcano and visit the famous hot springs. You may choose to add the "beach extension", extending your horseback riding vacation to take in the white sandy beaches of Costa Rica's west coast for that long dreamt of gallop along the shores.

  About Costa Rica...

The democratic haven of Central America, Costa Rica, (not to be confused with the Island of Puerto Rico), is a small but proud country located on Central America's mainland, between Panama (to the south) and Nicaragua (to the north). Costa Rica abolished their army more than half a century ago, using the savings to flourish economically and socially like no other country in this part of the world. Costa Rican people are colorful, known for their peaceful and welcoming attitude and their extreme friendliness. Health care, education and ecological conservation are of the main concerns among the population and the government.

   Costa Rica is unique: spread on a fairly small surface it has an incredible landscape with very diverse flora and fauna. Costa Rica is a natural refuge and shelters more than 5% of the world's fauna diversity. The country is shaped by mountains and forests, by humid and radically dry regions, by dormant and active volcanoes, by plateaus and valleys, by lowland and volcanic lakes, by miles and miles of white-sand and black-sand beaches bordered by forests on both the Pacific and the Atlantic coast.

It is hard to describe with precise words a place like Monteverde that reaches so close to being a dream. Even pictures, which are said to be worth a thousand words, cannot illustrate Monteverde. Try and imagine: genuinely friendly people, mountains all around, warm weather, fresh air, lush tropical forests dotted with myriads of colorful plants and exotic flowers, generously inhabited by wildlife just as diverse in colors and species as the flora can be, where the countryside abounds in green healthy pastures, rainbows of all sizes (even moon bows!) rivers, waterfalls, breathtaking views at each turn of the road, sunsets to leave you wordless....add to the picture clouds and mist to give the stunning sceneries a touch of mysticism....

  Monteverde (Green Mountain) is located high in the "Cordillera de Tilaran", north Of San Jose (Costa Rica's capital) and sits atop of the Continental Divide at an altitude of approximately 1500 meters above sea level. The area is known and visited primarily for its lush green cloud forests and the diversity of plants, animals, insects and birds it shelters all year round. The community of Santa Elena and Monteverde is fairly mixed; a melting-pot of local Costa Ricans, ex-patriots and immigrants from many countries such as England, Canada, Germany, Argentina, Austria, Nicaragua, Columbia, Panama... But these are just.. plain facts that do not render the real feel of Monteverde – a community of scientists, artists, musicians, teachers, students, farmers, conservationists and businesses.
